Role of International Organizations In Promoting Global Governance And Resolving Disputes

Abstract

The role of international organizations (IOs) in fostering global governance
and resolving disputes is of paramount significance in today's
interconnected world. This article delves into the web of international
relations, focusing on key IOs such as the United Nations (UN), the World
Trade Organization (WTO) among others. Against the background of
increasing globalization, where transnational challenges demand
collaborative solutions, the article examines the effectiveness and
challenges faced by IOs. Employing a doctrinal methodology, this article
draws from primary sources such as the UN Charter and the Paris Climate
Agreement 2015, alongside secondary materials including legal articles and
textbooks. It seeks to examine the legal and institutional frameworks behind
global governance, evaluating their facilitation or hindrance of IO
operations. Additionally, it scrutinizes the roles, functions, and limitations
of IOs in dispute resolution, considering their efficacy. Findings underscore
the pivotal yet complex role of IOs in navigating global governance and
dispute resolution. While IOs provide essential platforms for cooperation
and dialogue, challenges such as limited enforcement power, financial
constraints, and the reluctance of states to cede sovereignty pose significant
hurdles. Based on these insights, the article advocates for strategic reforms
to enhance IO efficacy. In view of the foregoing, the paper recommends a
bolstering legal framework to enforce international norms, enhancing IO
adaptability to changing geopolitical landscapes. It is also recommended
that resource constraints should be addressed through increased
international cooperation
